Dear members and friends of the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour,
I’m sorry to have missed a newsletter last week. As some of you may now, the Universe decided to mark the end of my Tasmanian holiday with a positive Rapid Antigen Test, requiring to isolate in my hotel for a full week before being able to return home. Truly, after spending a full week watching Netflix, playing Tetris and sweating out an infection, I’ve never been happier to see Sydney Airport.
However, plague or no plague, Rotary waits for no one. This Australia Day sees the launch of our Rotary District’s Adopt-a-Tree initiative, and the District needs volunteers at spruik the project on the 25th and 26th. Details are below, if anyone is free your participation would be very welcome. We’ve all missed boots on ground volunteering, so I hope to see you there.

This Australia Day, Rotary District 9675 is launching the Adopt-a-Tree initiative. This will allow Rotarians and members of the public to adopt a tree for 5 dollars. Trees will be planted in environmentally impacted areas of NSW, with planting areas determined by experts. Bunnings is supporting the launch of this project, and allowing Rotary Clubs to represent the initiative outside of their stores on the 25th and 26th of January from 8am to 5pm.
This is important initiative in protecting our natural environment, and in representing the good work that Rotary Clubs perform to the general public. If you’re free on the 25th or 26th, our Club is representing the project at Bunnings Alexandria and we’d love to see you there.

| Club Meeting – 9/2/2022: Jess Hodge
February 9, 2022 at 7:30 am
The Grace Hotel
This week we’ll be joined by Jess Hodge from Resourceful Living. With a passion to change the way we treat single-use plastic, Jess and her husband Geoff set out to find a sustainable solution to environmental plastic burden. They wanted an approach which provided plastic a second, third, even up to a tenth life, as an alternate product to waste. Not just containers and small items, but big home or office features, such as tables, chairs, cupboards, wardrobes or even kitchen benchtops; which can employ lots of waste plastic perfectly!
Jess will be talking about her experiences in this area, and how we can all be better stewards of the environment. If you are looking to give something back to the community, to develop professionally, to help steer exciting projects, or are just interested in making new friends, you are very welcome to attend our meeting.

In May 25, 2003, two men boarded an empty Boeing 727 at an airport in Angola and flew off into the sunset. The FBI and CIA conducted a massive search, but neither the men nor the plane was ever seen or heard from again. It is one of the largest aircraft ever to disappear.
Well, that’s it from me. Don’t forget that our next meeting is scheduled for 6.30pm on the 3rd of February, taking place at Club York. For more information, please visit rotarydarlingharbour.org.au/events/evening-meeting-3-2-2022/\
Until next week,
