The Darling: 25/7/2022

Dear members and friends of the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour,

We have an exciting few weeks ahead. Wednesday is our first evening meeting in our new location, the PSK Private Wealth offices in the Sydney CBD. On Friday, we have our first Friday Social event, enjoying the beautiful harbour we were named after at The Sporting Globe. On Sunday, we’ll be back in the city to plant trees and then, after two weeks of recuperation, we’ll be marshalling for the City2Surf on the 14th of August.

There’s a lot there for everyone, and the details for all those events are below. Please make sure to register for any volunteer opportunity, and visit our website for more information.

City2Surf Volunteering
August 14, 2022 at 5:30 am

City2Surf is an iconic event, stretching 14 km from Sydney’s CBD to Bondi. Since 2008, when the fundraising tally was first recorded, it has raised over $48 million for charities in need. Sydney’s generosity has become the beating heart of this event. This year, the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour will be helping out with marshalling the event. This helps make the day safe for all participants, and generates valuable funds to support our Club’s work. We’d love to see you there.

Final Thoughts

The Romans published a daily gazette called the Acta Diurna. It contained major events, births and deaths. It was either inscribed in stone or metal or painted in black on white walls called Albums. This practice was initiated by Julius Caesar and lasted from 59 BC to 222 AD.

In many ways, I like to see myself as continuing their work.

Well, that’s it from me. Don’t forget that our next meeting is on Wednesday the 27th of July at 6PM. For more information, please visit https://rotarydarlingharbour.org.au/events/club-meeting-27-7-2022-2/

Until next week,
Drew Sturgiss
President
