Dear members and friends of the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour,
Accompanied by several Club members and Rotarians from throughout Sydney, I spent Sunday morning volunteering at the City2Surf. Though I’m sure some Rotarians did compete in the event, we helped out by marshalling. I personally spent the morning standing next to a fence, informing walkers that the fence was there for an important reason. You would be surprised how many assumed the fence was purely decorative.

By volunteering at City2Surf, attendees are able to receive a donation to their organisation they’re volunteering with, so our brisk morning of marshalling will aid the Club in our important work. As you might guess, a lot of other groups sent their volunteers for similar reasons, meaning I spent the morning in the company of Scouts, running enthusiasts and others dedicated to their communities and causes.

Truly, even if it did require getting up at 4AM, this was a pleasant morning, and I’d encourage anyone who missed to strongly consider attending next year!

For those that missed out, or for those who did attend and have still found that their itch to do good in the world has not yet been scratched, I’d love to see you at this weekend’s MediShare Container Loading. This will be a good weekend of some social volunteering, and will even feature a BBQ lunch. Registration is essentially, please sign up via the form on the event page.

Final Thoughts

Major League Baseball pitcher Ed Porray is the only player in league history to not be born in a country. He was born on a fishing boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on December 5th, 1888. His birth certificate lists “At sea, on the Atlantic Ocean” as his birthplace.

Well, that’s it from me. Don’t forget that our next meeting is on Wednesday the 24th of August at 6PM, taking place online. For more information, please visit https://rotarydarlingharbour.org.au/events/virtual-meeting-24-8-2022/

Until next week,
