The Darling 24/10/2022

Dear members and friends of the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour,

District conference is coming up! Being held at the William Inglis Hotel on Friday the 4th to Saturday the 5th of November, this will be a great opportunity to meet Rotarians from around the District, learn about our shared initiatives and see a line up of great speakers including Jelena Dokic, Craig Foster, Dr. Jamal Rifi, Nicole Dyson, John Kirkland, David McPherson & Deanne Carson. If you’ve not done so already, you can book your tickets at

Going even grander, the Rotary International Convention from the 27th to the 31st of May is also approaching, with it being held in Melbourne. This will be one of your most affordable options to ever attend an RI convention, as you can easily reach Melbourne without an International flight! Tickets can be booked at
Darlings interested in attending and sharing accommodation with other members can best get in touch with Membership Director Sue at

With this many exciting events coming up, you could be forgiven for struggling to keep track. Based on member feedback, we’re looking at implementing a reminder system for upcoming events, providing email reminders before events occur, to help members remember our meetings even when their busy lives get in the way.
In order to support this, I’ll need user feedback for the implementation, as well as support in crafting event descriptions. Anyone interested can best get involved by emailing

Our friends at the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove have been running this regatta for 28 years, and have donated millions to support research projects at the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation, their principal beneficiary for 25 years.

The Regatta runs out of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA), the home of the ROLEX Sydney to Hobart race. The yacht owners provide around 50 of the best yachts and their crew – like Ichi Ban and Wild Oats – for free one day each November to support the regatta.

Final Thoughts

Steve McQueen had a habit of demanding free items, in bulk, from studios, when doing movies. It was later discovered that these items (like electric razors and jeans) went to Boys Republic reformatory school, where McQueen had been as a teenager.

Well, that’s it from me. Don’t forget that our next meeting is on Wednesday the 26th of October at 6PM, taking place at online. For more information, please visit

Until next week,
