Dear members and friends of the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour,

What a weekend! Like several dozen of my friends in Rotary, I attended the District 9675 Conference on the weekend. As well as the regular slew of Rotary projects, we learned about Deanne Carson’s work in protecting our children from sexual abuse, Nicole Dyson and her vision of fostering the entrepreneurial spirit in our youth, the inspiring work of Craig Foster as a human rights activist, John Kirkland’s perspective on the importance of good fathers, Dr Jamal Rifi’s history on healing the human body and human relationships, the heart-wrenching experience of Jelena Dokic’s struggle against verbal and physical abuse and David McPherson and his story of not just triumphing over adversity, but using that as an impetus to help those around him. Truly a Conference to be remembered!

In other exciting news from last week, the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour sponsored Jacinta Bailey for the Rotary Peace Fellowship in recognition for her work in Tranby College. In all, there were approximately 600 applicants for the 2023 Peace Fellowships with the Foundation awards approximately 130 each year. We have received word that Jacinta has been successful, and we couldn’t be prouder to have helped support her work.

Finally, if you still have room on your plate for more good news, District Governor Dr. Janice Hall is visiting our Club this week, with the Rotary Club of Sydney Inner West also attending as part of DG Janice’s “Joint Visit” initiative. Janice is one of the sharpest minds in Rotary (and there’s some pretty stiff competition) so I’d encourage you to attend.

Final Thoughts

The largest cup of coffee ever was created by Alcaldía Municipal de Chinchiná (Colombia) at Parque de Bolívar, Chinchiná, Caldas, Colombia on 15 June 2019. The cup contained over 22,735 litres of Arabic coffee.
