Community Spirit Sizzles at Alexandria Fundraising BBQ

Alexandria, May 9, 2026 — A well-oiled operation and strong community support combined for a successful Rotary fundraising barbecue held on Saturday at Bunnings Alexandria.

Running “like clockwork,” the event saw a dedicated team of volunteers—including ‘Darling’ members - Chris, John, Miguel, Helen, Karys and Jeremy—working tirelessly throughout the day to keep the grills firing and the customers satisfied. A huge and special thank you to Karys' husband and Jeremy's friend for being amazing friends of Rotary and volunteering their time and efforts! Without all of our great volunteers the event would not have been so successful.

By the end of the day, an impressive 95 kilograms of sausages had been cooked and served, with customers enjoying the classic sausage sandwich—either topped with onions or without—while supporting a good cause.

The local community turned out in force, demonstrating both loyalty and generosity. The fundraiser brought in a total profit of $2,306, which will be directed towards a range of Rotary projects aimed at supporting community initiatives.

Despite the long hours and hard work, we are so grateful for the ongoing support, noting that the humble sausage sandwich continues to be a powerful symbol of community connection and charitable giving.

“It was a big day for everyone involved, we’re incredibly thankful for the continued enthusiasm shown by the community, both for Rotary and for a classic Aussie barbecue tradition.”
