Dear members and friends of the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour,

I must confess, I’m beginning to feel like a jinx. My Presidential year started with having to postpone the Club’s changeover. And now, as we approach what would otherwise be my first Club meeting as President, Sydney has now entered a harder lock-down on the back of increasing case numbers. These are challenging times for everyone, made all the more difficult by the fact that we can’t see our families, socialise with our friends or even engage in retail therapy!

I’m confident however, that if we all do the right thing Sydney will emerge from this temporary hibernation soon, and we’ll all be able see each other shortly. In the interim, it would take a lot more than a lock-down to stop the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour! Our recent virtual movie night was a lot of fun, and we’re hard at work developing new ways for the Club to engage its members virtually. Come rain, hail, shine or pandemic, the thing that makes me proudest to be a Rotarian is that we never stop looking for ways to put out hands to something useful.

I hope you all do well in lock-down, and I look forward to seeing your face (via webcams) soon.

Upcoming Events

Digital Club Meeting – 14/7/2021: Carly Hussey
July 14, 2021 at 7:30 am

This week, we’ll be joined by Carly Hussey who will speak to us about her work with the Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC). Supporting women’s workforce participation is an economic and social priority. It benefits women and their families, their communities, business and the economy. For women impacted by homelessness, domestic violence, and social disadvantage, the barriers to workforce participation are multiple, compounding, and complex. Carly will be speaking about the great work she’s part of in this area, and the current challenges it faces.

Final Thoughts

One many things the Voyager 1 spacecraft has recorded on its golden record are the brain waves of a woman recently fallen in love. That woman is Ann Druyan, she was the creative director on the project and she had recently proposed to Carl Sagan.

Well, that’s it from me. Don’t forget that our next meeting is scheduled for 7.30AM on Wednesday the 14th of July, taking place online. For more information, including how to access the meeting remotely, please visit https://rotarydarlingharbour.org.au/events/club-meeting-14-7-2021/

Until next week,
