Dear members and friends of the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour,

The Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour recently voted to endorse the Uluru Statement from the Heart. This is an important statement which would provide our First Nations people a voice in Parliament. As a Club which has always worked to support elevating the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour urges all Australians to support its calls and join the journey for a better future.

On less weighty matters, don’t forget that we have an in-person Club Meeting this weekend, and volunteering at the City2Surf this weekend. If you’ve not volunteered already but would like to help at, please email me at president@rotarydarlingharbour.org.au to see if we can squeeze you in.

We would love to have you amongst us and to work on things you care about. We’d be delighted to add any project you’d like to raise to our list, and to show how the global Rotary network can help make you a part of making the world a better place.

City2Surf is an iconic event, stretching 14 km from Sydney’s CBD to Bondi. Since 2008, when the fundraising tally was first recorded, it has raised over $48 million for charities in need. Sydney’s generosity has become the beating heart of this event. This year, the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour will be helping out with marshalling the event. This helps make the day safe for all participants, and generates valuable funds to support our Club’s work. We’d love to see you there. Final Thoughts

The Sydney suburb “Pendle Hill” (and the English town it is named for) derives its name from the old Cumbric word ‘pen’ (meaning ‘hill’) and the Old English word ‘hyll’ (meaning ‘hill’). A literal translation of the name could read ‘Hill-hill Hill.’

Well, that’s it from me. Don’t forget that our next meeting is on Wednesday the 10th of August at 6PM. For more information, please visit https://rotarydarlingharbour.org.au/events/club-meeting-10-8-2022/

Until next week,
Drew Sturgiss
