The Darling: 28/11/2022

Dear members and friends of the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour,

We’re still after volunteers for our upcoming barbecues. If you’ve not done so already, please considering volunteering. We have the Glebe Public School’s BBQ at the Sydney Children’s Christmas Concert on December 10, and our annual Uniting Harris Community Centre Nativity Event on the 16th.

Otherwise, our next in-person meeting will be on the 14th of December, and will be the last one for the year. We’ve got an excellent guest speaker lined up, with Sarah Thyssen from the EB Research Partnership coming to talk to us about Epidermolysis Bullosa. Rare diseases can be challenging to learn about it, but also can be invigorating and a keen reminder as to the work that we are charged with as Rotarians. I hope to see you there.

Upcoming Events

Glebe Public School BBQ
December 10, 2022 at 3:30 pm
Prince Alfred Park

Our friends at Glebe Public school will be participating in the Sydney Children’s Christmas Concert this year, selling snags and drinks to hungry concert goers. Funds raised will be used to support the school and its ongoing community work. In order to help make the event a success, they’ve asked for us to lend a hand. Whether behind the grill, working the cash register or selling drinks and merchandise, they would greatly appreciate our assistance.

The Harris Community Centre will be holding their annual Christmas event, and have asked for our support in running their BBQ and Gelato store. These are always a fantastic way to cap off the year, with youngsters running underfoot, grown-ups catching up and even an appearance from Santa.

Final Thoughts

After being denied having his dog in his dorm at Cambridge, famous poet Lord Byron got a pet bear since there was no rule against them.

Well, that’s it from me. Don’t forget that our next meeting is on Wednesday the 14th of December at 6PM. For more information, please visit https://rotarydarlingharbour.org.au/events/club-meeting-14-12-2022/

Until next week,
Drew Sturgiss
