Repairing Bodies and Rebuilding Lives

October 31st, 2021|

This week, the Club was lucky enough to be visited by Vimla Hayman from the Rotary Club of St George Next Gen, who spoke to us about Interplast's work in supporting teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery in 17 countries in the Asia Pacific region. Vimla spoke to several examples of the important and life-changing work that Interplast does, in providing hope and support to individuals who have suffered life changing injuries, and young children born with cleft lip and palate, or serious scarring. The Club was moved, in seeing the dramatic before and after photos of the recipients of Interplasts support, and the volunteer spirit and generosity that goes into making their important and challenging work possible.

Creating a Safe Place for Men to Share

October 17th, 2021|

Last week, members of the Rotary Club of Sydney Darling Harbour heard from David Pointon, founder of The Men's Table. The Men's Table is 'a place where men can talk about what's really going on and how they're feeling'. Groups of about 12 men meet once a month over dinner, with the aims of: being heard; creating a trusted peer group; and creating a sense of belonging and community. Over the last two years, The Men's Table has also seen the introduction of virtual tables and forums, and this year, celebrated its 10th anniversary.
